Now you bought your first vehicle (or it can be your dream car) and you want to keep its impeccable condition for a longer period. The significance of this article lies in the awareness that you can actually prolong the longevity of your car. Let’s dive into this topic:

1 Remember that the first 1,600 km (1,000 miles) is crucial. It establishes whether your car’s life will be long-lasting or not. If it is break-in period, approach your car swiftly. Try not to outpace other cars by accelerating too much. This can exert additional pressure on the engine.
2. In order to prolong the life longevity of your vehicle, it is better to avoid idling for a longer period, especially if your car is new. Because it is possible that car’s components may not be entirely provided with the oil.

3. Avoid putting heavy materials or loads on the drive train (especially, heavy trunks with construction materials or trailers).
4. Speed up swiftly. The initial 15–20 minutes is important for the engine and drive train to ignite completely.

5. Neutral mode is more beneficial than manual mode at red light (even if your car is automatic). By doing so, you can clog the engine’s operation at this moment and make it more efficient.

6. Overwhelming pressure on the power-steering pump can damage it. Hence, do not turn and hold the steering wheel for several seconds. Avoid doing this when it is tightly positioned to the right or left.
7. Do not rush and surpass speed limits too much. Otherwise, you can extend tire pressure which will eventually impact the engine.

8. Be careful about the gas stations. Pump filters may not be changed regularly in some stations and this process can make the fuel dirty.

9. Do not force it when you are stuck. Budging your car from one position to another repeatedly can lead to overheating as you are constantly pressing on clutches or touching transmissions. In the long run, it will require changing car components.

10. Try not to fill up your vehicle with fuel if you see a tanker in the service station. During this time, tankers providing gasoline can insert unfiltered components and sediments into the tank. You may unconsciously put these components in your car.

11. If you are not going to use your vehicle for a longer period, you can protect it by filling the gas tank and installing a fuel stabilizer. The car’s performance can worsen if it is not ignited or driven for long, so it is better to budge your car a bit and go around your living place. Also, you can take out the engine from the hood to optimize its operation in the long run.

12. Choosing a better company for car insurance. We do not know when something happens, even if we are careful drivers, someone behind us can render the accidents. Hence, it is better to create preliminary measures such as insurance. Having the right insurer loosens your nerves in emergency situations.

13. Wash your car in winter. Most people are accustomed to skipping washing their vehicle in this season, as they tend to think that it would be useless to wipe it again and again. But, it has to be approached just like summer. Why? Because people will spill salt on the sliding surface, and it will eventually be mixed with sand, ice and other contaminants. This chemical mixture is going to obliterate your car and make it rust slowly. Temperature shifts are the main factors behind the corrosion, it does not matter whether it is too hot or cold, you have to keep washing your car.

14. The owner’s manual is your savior. I have seen many people who just throw this thing or neglect it. This book is technically your car instructor, so you are able to avoid making expensive mistakes just by looking at this manual. For instance, speed limit recommendations, wheel alignment or regular tire rotation periods can be given in this book.

15. Tire inflation. This should undoubtedly be controlled regularly. Do not forget that you can be sharing your money with tire specialists just by neglecting proper check of your tires. If it is under-inflated, driving performance will significantly dwindle as pressure releasing from huge weight renders inefficiency. If you live in a place where scorching weather is a casual thing, it is recommended to check the inflation more frequently.

16. Do not forget to check the fluid. The fluid is used everywhere (automatic transmission fluid or power steering fluid or brake/clutch fluid) to make their operation smoother and balanced. In most cases, it has already been stated to change fluids (For example, in your initial 8,000 km you are required to change automatic transmission fluid).

17. Engine oil is important. You have probably seen your dad changing the oil or checking it with a small metal stick. It is a huge responsibility because the longevity of your engine can be extended with your careful treatment. It is also recommended to change oil more often (it may be given in manual, check it beforehand).

18. Lug nuts and hubcaps must be treated with care. Lug nuts tend to experience corrosion as they are made of metal. Hence, skipping this information can transfer more money from your pocket when it has already become frozen and untouchable. Repairing lug nuts is expensive. Anti-seize lubricants are your assistant in this way. I am sure that you have already seen some hubcaps popping out of the vehicle while driving it. It happens when it is incorrectly installed and it loosens over time. Be careful and recheck your hubcaps by prying the metal clips slightly after removing hubcaps from the tire.
19. Be careful about heavyweight car loads. Long materials might damage your car (dents, cracks, chips) after sliding over.

20. Shade is the car’s best friend. While your garage is the best place to put your vehicle, there are certain circumstances when you may have to park it under the sun. The sun’s constant appearance can dismantle the paint of your car, but you can prevent it by parking your car out of the sun’s vision.

21. Vulnerable speed dashboard. The dashboard demonstrates your car’s performance, and it is often referred to as a health bar of your vehicle. So, it is better to touch and clean it swiftly by using a soft cloth. Because plastic lenses are vulnerable to external pressure.

22. Leather seats are durable but not impenetrable. Even though leather seats are not supposed to be maintained regularly, they still have a tight position because of its durability. But it can be soiled after several years. Leather cleaner and protectants should be inside your instrument bag while cleaning seats.

23. Turn on your AC in winter. Running your AC in cold weather can actually make it fit for the next warm season. Compressor parts will not be seized, and the seals will be soft.

24. Anti-lock brakes are vital. One of the most important things is the anti-lock brake system. This system is vulnerable to moisture, and it can eventually affect the ABS pump (this pump is really expensive). Brake fluids should be carefully monitored every 3 years.

25. Clean the engine and battery. Dirty engines will casually hide leaks and spots that should be removed entirely, so it is better to have your engine cleaned every year. Use proper dishwashing liquid and some detergents. Follow the guidelines more carefully and optimize your engine’s performance.
